Warning: Shirtmaking geek alert! Purrrring along here in "Hello Kitty" world. With the fronts completed I turn my attention to the back and yoke. I've decided to eliminate the center box pleat at the back, so things are pretty simple here. My plan all along has been to use the gingham as a contrasting inner yoke. [...]

Hello Kitty, getting started
OK, I didn't spend a ton of time and effort deciding how to hack my TNT pattern. No muslin. Basically I just threw some pins in an existing shirt. Like this.... My TNT shirt pattern has very long tails. No way it's ever gonna come untucked! The Hello Kitty shirt, however, is meant to be untucked. [...]
For my next project, say "Hello" to…….
Hello Kitty!!!! As interpreted by Liberty of London no less! First, a huge apology. This post is WAY overdue. One of my readers generously sent me a length of Liberty tana lawn in this fantastic Hello Kitty print ages ago. She said it was "a bargain", not her colors, and that she wanted me [...]
Finlayson #2, Completed
This sweater's ready to take on a Maine winter..... And quite stylishly IMO. Kudos to Thread Theory for this design. I can't think of any guy who wouldn't love this sweater. I made a few little changes this time around. I added a horn toggle and loop closure which adds a bit of extra interest [...]
More Finlayson Progress
Construction continues on the Finlayson sweater. Because I'm working with a double layer of knits, I find myself having to improvise most of the seams to reduce the bulk. Even with the added steps I'm doing, this sweater goes together easily. Once again, I'm using Snug Hug rayon seam binding to stabilize the seams. Here [...]
The Final Finlayson
This sweater will be the last of my winter sewing. Like many of you, I'm ready for spring. This will also be the last GREEN thing I sew for awhile. Olive is a great color for me, but enough already! This is another one of those situations where, "when great fabric falls at your feet, [...]
No Turning Back Now — My Entry is Posted
It's a done deal. My Missoni knockoff is officially entered over on Pattern Review. You can check it out here. I have to say it was no easy task figuring out how to navigate the PR process on my iPad. After a couple of wrong turns, and what seemed like endless shuffling of my photos [...]
Missoni Sweater / Blazer #2 — It’s a Wrap!
Yay! I finished before the deadline. This post is primarily for other PR contest members who may be interested in some of the construction details. The contest rules don't allow for many photos. I think I can submit only 3 photos, one of which has to be the "inspiration" garment. A little sewing geekery..... Because the [...]
Shirt for a Snowy Day
Or ..... When great fabric falls on you, you should BUY it! This fabric actually fell on me in a crazy crowded NYC fabric store. Some of you may know the place. It's the one that's perpetually going out of business and everything is 50% off. Yes, that place. You walk through a path about 1 [...]
Contest Sewing Update
It snowed here most of the day yesterday. So rather than risk a fender bender, or worse, I stayed in and sewed. I'm really making great progress, and feel pretty confident that I'll be able to finish before the deadline. Having made this jacket before is a huge advantage. I'm not exactly sure how these [...]
