Working on the jacket fronts

February 20, 2013by mainelydad10 Comments on Working on the jacket fronts

Today I finally had time to tackle the jacket fronts. I'm making this jacket out of a raw silk patchwork fabric. As much as I like the look of it, it's proving to be a challenge to work with. It's very loosely woven with flaws and slubs everywhere. Not to mention that it frays and [...]

The crash!

April 28, 2011May 12, 2018by mainelydad4 Comments on The crash!

I'm sure no one is crazy enough to be sewing along with me, but if you have the Cabrera book there is a huge error (or at least an area of potential confusion) on page 117!  BEWARE! This is the beginning page of "The Lining".  Of course he has you toss out any patterns you [...]

Today's theme for #sewapril2021 is "My Greatest Hack".
Today's theme for #sewapril2021 is vests.
Today's theme for #sewapril2021 is coats.
The theme today for #sewapril2021 is jackets. I made this jacket for my son's wedding rehearsal dinner back in 2017. It's sort of a tyrolean / little French jacket mashup. I'm sure Coco just rolled over in her grave! I hacked the design from #burda7291. The Donegal wool fabric was handwoven by my mom, so it's a special, special occasion jacket. The trims and bronze buttons are from @mjtrimming. Lined with silk charmeuse, but of course!
Today's theme for #sewapril2021 is a knit top. I had to dig deep into my archive to find this, because I'm the most "knit-phobic" sewist out there. This is the Finlayson sweater by Thread Theory, which I've hacked with a loop and horn toggle closure. The fabric is a wool and mohair sweater knit purchased years ago from @metrotextiles. This sweater is lined with wool jersey so it's quite heavy. It gets worn only on the coldest winter days. #sewapril2021, #mainelydad , #mainelymenswear ,#imakemyownclothes , #rylissbod , #fiberstofabric , #finlaysonsweater #knitsscareme, @rylissbod , @fiberstofabric
Today's theme for #sewapril2021 is a woven top. I love making shirts. This one is made with Liberty's Hello Kitty Tana lawn that was given to me by a blog follower. She wanted to see "what I could do with it". There wasn't enough for a whole shirt so I combined it with two colors of gingham. This is what the crazy uncle wears for Easter. #sewapril2021 , #mainelydad, #mainelymenswear , #rylissbod , #fiberstofabric , #grasserpatterns, #wovenshirt, #imakemyownclothes , #shirtmaking, @rylissbod , @fiberstofabric, #libertyhellokitty
